Winnipeg's wrecking ball claims another victim. A sad day indeed to see this legendary restaurant close. But boy are we happy to have had the privilege to save all we could and we promise to do right by every thing we picked. The Shanghai shrine is already in the works at the Neon Factory. This pick was most important to Mike and Joe Wolchock for it was much more than just a restaurant to these boys. As regular customers they/we were torn when we heard of the closure! The Wolchock's (as well as many other family's) had regular outings and get together's here and many many great memories were made. Generations of memories. With that being said I can assure you that The Neon Factory will proudly and respectfully capture the awesomeness of the all mighty Shanghai and light it up for the world to see and remember! But it does not stop at the neon when it comes to the picking of Shanghai! No way. Once the boys got in the door they saved all they could! You cant make a mini replica with just the signage! First things first was to pick the booth that their family often sat at, including the table number on the wall. Done. Then it just snowballed from there! I will leave it to you to come down to the Neon Factory and discover what other treasures were picked that day. If there was a memory lane for Shanghai you will find it at the Neon Factory!

Its always sad to see another small business shut down in Winnipeg. Classic Shears Barber Shop, located across from Pollock's Hardware Co-op on Main street closed this summer. Mike was quick to save what he could and got a trim with Colin on the last day as well! I think that was Mikes first hair cut ever, lol, and yes it was still in the pony tail when the barber cut it. This pick started with an auction where Joe bought an awesome little building at an even more awesome price. That later brought the boys back to pick the town. If you are wondering if they went in to that building that is about to drop they sure did. There is no stopping these boys! You will never know when you will find a diamond in the rough! Picking has become a family affair for the Wolchock boys, always has and will be. You will notice through these photos and through this blog how family and even some friends become involved in the adventures of picking. Its addictive, once you start picking you just cant stop...the kids can attest to that! This just goes to show they will pick anything! Another one of Winnipeg's Main Street demolition projects. As derelict as it gets Mike and Joe save what they can from this run down cafe. Pop by the Neon Factory some time, maybe you can spot a few of the items below livin' it up in its new glory! If they can bring it back to life...they will. |
